Health Concern: | Heart Health | Bone Health |
Low-Dose Vitamin K2 contains the menaquinone-7 (MK7) form of vitamin K2, which metabolizes slowly. This makes MK7 more available to provide a more consistent supply of vitamin K to the body.
Vitamin K is essential for bone density and heart health. It helps maintain healthy bone density by facilitating the transport of calcium from the bloodstream into the bone. Calcium-regulating proteins in the arteries also require vitamin K.
Limits to Dietary Vitamin K Intake
Studies show it’s difficult to rely on diet alone to supply all forms of vitamin K. For instance, vitamin K2 in its highest concentrations are often found in foods high in saturated fat. You would have to consume large amounts of cheese to get the optimal K2 levels that are supported by human clinical trials. And low-fat versions of these foods often have much less vitamin K2 content.
